-i have recommended left hand fingering below the tab.

this is a fantastic bossa-nova tune transcribed here for solo guitar. this
transcription is from the sheet music, but it's likely you've heard a
different version of the song as there are several arrangements out there.
one of my favourite arrangements of the piece is by slava grigoryan, from his
second album 'dance of the angel'. if you have this great piece you should
definately check out the discussion of slava's version at the end of this tab.
however for the main tab i have tried to stick to the sheet music, and this
version is like how you may have heard Gerald Garcia's recording of the piece.

phew, well that's the score. as i mentioned earlier, there
are several versions of this song. i've heard a couple of
really fun and quirky recordings played by a big band, with
lots of nice flute solos on the melody. one of my friends
said it's great music for dancing around the kitchen. =)
see if you can find the Herbie Mann + Astrud Gilberto version
'cause it's great fun. it sounds like flute, guitar, double
bass and percussion..methinks.
there is also another band version on a baden-powell LP
somewhere...
if you need a solo guitar version like this tab, then you're
maybe looking for a recording played by Gerald Garcia. he
sticks to this tab pretty well, but i think he might just
skip the whole improvised section.
anyways when i first fell in love with this song it was the
first version i heard, on Slava Grigoryan's second album,
dance of the angel.

there are two recordings on there: one for solo guitar,
arranged by slava, and the other is a trio with two
classical guitars and an electric bass.
slava's arrangement of deve ser amor is lovely. he's
changed the whole rhythm of the piece and, IMHO, has given
it a much cheekier and jazzier feel. dave sent me what he
reckons slava's changes to the song are...i'll just cut and
paste his email (lazy wim)

There are only a couple of things i would like to note.
Slava has changed not only the intro and the outro, but
mainly the whole _feel_ of the song. The emphasis and
the timing have all been played around with. This really
is the sort of song which you can play around with, too,
don't stick to this tab exactly, improvise it a little!
As for dave's tab here, i don't know where he got the
--8p7---5-- part in the intro from. I don't hear it on
the CD. And I think the last chord is just a Gmaj7. I
end it like this, i think this is how it goes:

one more thing which sounds great is to use hammer ons
on the sixth string for the bass line, ie.
--0h7-- and also possibly --0h5-- for those parts in
the main section. slava uses hammers the 7th frets but
not the 5th frets (dave says he uses open A's instead
for some strange reason), but i reckon both sound great.
