One of the most fascinating and moving pieces ever composed for the lute.
"The legendary figure of the lutenist Johann Anton Losy (ca.1650+1721)[...]
Noble by birth [from Bohemia], Losy was equally so by the elevation of his
musical inspiration which, to some extent, prefigures that of Weiss.
His death inspired Weiss with this deploration in the strange and gloomy key
of B flat minor. Like his predecessors, Weiss uses the rhetoric inherent to
this musical genre: mainly low registers, repeated toll-like notes,
descending lines, tearful vibrato, sighing rythms, long harmonic pedals,
dissonances, and the ultimate chromatic ascent for the deliverance."

It would be hasardous to play this piece without knowing it, not only because
of my rudimentary rythm indications I'm afraid. Needless to say, refering to
a good recording is therefore recommended:
Lute: Michel Cardin, Eugen Dombois, Lutz Kirchhof, Aaron Skitri, etc.
Hopkinson Smith - the easiest version to get on CD I suppose (notes
above from that recording)
Guitar: Alexandre Lagoya, Julian Bream, Raphaëlla Smits, etc.
Pavel Steidl - definitely not the easiest to get, but my favorite
